The MacLean Center’s renowned clinical medical ethics fellowship program has trained over 600 fellows, many of whom hold endowed professorships and direct clinical ethics programs in the US, Canada and Europe.
Each Fall, The MacLean Center hosts the Dorothy J. MacLean Conference, which focuses on topics related to clinical medical ethics.
We are interested in high quality presentations from the US and throughout the world. We seek to highlight not only empirical studies but also analytical examinations of controversies in clinical ethics and how health care is delivered in contemporary society.

Since 2011, the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago has given the MacLean Center Prize in Clinical Ethics and Health Outcomes to senior scholars from throughout the world who have made transformative contributions to the field of clinical medical ethics and health outcomes through scholarship, practice, leadership, and policy development.
We now seek nominations for the 2023 MacLean Center Prize.

Since 1981, the MacLean Center has sponsored an annual lecture series that has examined the ethical aspects of one key health-related topic. During the 2022-23 academic year, our topic is Gender Equity and Ethics. Weekly lectures will be on Wednesdays from September 2022 until May 2023.
Since 1981, The MacLean Center has offered clinical ethics consultations to assist patients, families, physicians, nurses, and students. The Center also developed the concept of “research ethics consultation” in 1987 and has continued to offer this service to translational researchers and to the IRB.
Since 1986, the MacLean Center’s internationally renowned medical ethics fellowship program has graduated more than 600 fellows, many of whom hold endowed professorships and direct ethics programs around the globe.
Since 1981, the MacLean Center has sponsored an annual lecture series examining ethical aspects of one health-related topic each year. The topic in 2022-23 is “Gender Equity and Ethics.”
Each November, The MacLean Center hosts the Dorothy J. MacLean Fellows Conference on topics related to clinical medical ethics. The conference spans two days and draws speakers and audiences from all over the world.
